Factory Direct Prices | Better Value | Lifetime Warranty
Pearls are the only gemstone made by a living creature — grown inside oysters and mussels, layer by layer, over months or years. That origin gives them a soft, glowing lustre no faceted stone can replicate, which is why pearl jewellery has stayed a wardrobe staple across centuries and cultures, from string necklaces to modern minimal studs.
This collection includes freshwater pearl, shell pearl, and mother-of-pearl designs — each product page specifies which type you're viewing, along with pearl shape (round, near-round, or baroque) and size. Pieces are set in genuine 925 sterling silver, rhodium polished, nickel-free, lead-free, and BIS hallmarked (Certificate No. C-7590712221).

Freshwater, Shell & Mother-of-Pearl
We carry three pearl types across this collection, each labelled clearly on the product page. Freshwater pearls are cultured in freshwater mussels and are the most common type here — naturally round to near-round, with a soft, even lustre. Shell pearls (sometimes called Mallorca pearls) are made from crushed shell coated in a pearl-like finish, giving a very uniform round shape at a lower price point. Mother-of-pearl is the iridescent inner shell lining itself, used flat or carved rather than as a bead — you'll see it in some of our pendant designs. None of these are imitation in the sense of plastic or glass; they're all genuine shell- or nacre-based materials, just different forms.
Choosing the Right Pearl Piece
Look at three things: lustre (how much the surface glows and reflects light, not just shines), surface quality (fewer visible marks is better), and shape consistency across a set. A well-made piece will also have a secure setting or clasp — pearls are softer than most gemstones, so a loose prong or weak clasp is the most common way they get damaged. Beyond that, it's personal style: simple studs and solitaire pendants for everyday wear, statement earrings or layered necklaces for occasions.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Pearl Jewellery
Q: What is pearl jewellery?
A: Jewellery featuring pearls set into earrings, necklaces, pendants, rings, and bracelets. Pearls are valued for their soft lustre and timeless appeal, working equally well in classic and contemporary designs.
Q: What type of pearls are used in your jewellery?
A: It varies by design — freshwater pearl, shell pearl, or mother-of-pearl. Check the individual product page for the exact type, material, and dimensions before purchasing.
Q: Are all pearls perfectly round?
A: No. Pearls naturally occur in different shapes, including round, near-round, oval, button, and baroque forms, depending on the type of pearl and how it develops.
Q: Why can pearls vary slightly in colour and appearance?
A: Pearls show subtle differences in tone, lustre, surface, and shape. These variations are part of what gives genuine pearl jewellery its character, particularly with freshwater and shell pearls.
Q: Can pearl jewellery be worn every day?
A: Yes — many pearl earrings, pendants, and necklaces are suited to daily wear. Pearls are softer than most gemstones though, so they should be protected from scratches, harsh chemicals, and rough handling.
Choosing
Q: Which pearl piece is best for everyday wear?
A: Stud earrings, delicate pendants, and simple bracelets — easy to style and comfortable to wear from workwear through to evening. The Natural Freshwater Pearl Stud 925 Silver Earrings (₹899) and Daily Wear Solitary Natural Pearl Necklace (₹2,549) are good examples.
Q: Is pearl jewellery a good gift?
A: Yes — pearl jewellery works well for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, graduations, and Mother's Day, and its timeless style makes it easy to gift across age groups. For a June birthday specifically, any piece from this collection doubles as a meaningful birthstone gift.
Q: Can pearl jewellery be worn with both Indian and Western outfits?
A: Yes. Pearls pair beautifully with sarees, suits, and lehengas for a subtle or statement festive look, and work just as naturally with shirts, dresses, and denim for everyday Western wear.
Care & Warranty
Q: How should I clean pearl jewellery?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, clean cloth after wearing. Avoid harsh jewellery cleaners unless specifically formulated for pearls, as strong chemicals can damage the surface.
Q: Can perfume damage pearl jewellery?
A: Direct exposure to perfume, hairspray, and cosmetics is best avoided. Put pearl jewellery on after your beauty products have dried, and remove it before cleansing.
Q: How should pearl jewellery be stored?
A: Store separately in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box, away from harder gemstones and sharp metal edges that can scratch the pearl surface.
Q: What should I check before buying pearl jewellery online?
A: The pearl type, dimensions, metal used, product photographs, closure or setting style, care instructions, and return or exchange terms — these details tell you exactly what you're purchasing.
Q: Can I customise a pearl piece?
A: Yes. We manufacture in-house and can create a custom design with pearls in your choice of setting and metal. See our custom jewellery process or WhatsApp us at +91 86007 18666.
Q: What does the Lifetime Warranty cover?
A: Manufacturing defects — setting issues, a pearl coming loose due to a defective prong, structural problems. Does not cover accidental damage, normal wear, or damage from improper care (e.g. prolonged water or chemical exposure) given how delicate pearls are. To claim, email care@ornatejewels.com.
